Lienzo negro de pintar por números con un pájaro y flores

On the black canvases the lines and numbers are white on a dark background. The result is spectacular, with colors that seem to shine, but it is worth knowing a couple of things before starting.

Prepare good light

On black it is more difficult to see the small numbers and if an area has been well covered. Paint with natural light or with a white lamp focused directly on the canvas.

Light colors, in thin layers

The dark background is more noticeable under light tones. Do not try to cover it all at once with a thick layer:

  1. Give a thin first coat and let it dry.
  2. Give a second coat of the same color.
  3. In whites, yellows and pastels, you may need a third.

Trick: look at the canvas a little from the side, against the light. This way you can immediately see if there is any area where the black shows through.

Respect the lines

The white lines are part of the charm of these paintings, because they separate the colors and give them a very graphic finish. Paint to the edge of each area, but without covering the line.

Start with the dark

If you paint the dark colors first, any small slips will be hidden when you paint the light ones on top. The other way around is harder to correct.

  • Use the finer brush for small details.
  • Clean the brush well when going from a dark color to a light one.
  • If you can't see a number well, a magnifying glass will help you in the smaller areas.
